At the age of 67, Thaddeus Matthews, a contentious Memphis radio personality known as “The Cussing Pastor,” passed away. His wife, Melanie Matthews, posted on Facebook to inform others of his passing.
“No more illnesses or anxieties. You expressed your want to rest because you were exhausted. You passed away quietly today at 2:25 p.m. in the company of loved ones! We would like to express our gratitude to Facebook relatives and friends who have been praying for him and us throughout these difficult days. As we grieve, we kindly ask that you remember us in your prayers. Blessings and peace to everyone. Written by Melanie Matthews.
Matthews had been fighting a sickness, the specifics of which are unknown, according to The Ultimate News. His personal Facebook page has a number of recent posts that depict him in the hospital discussing extended hospital stays.
Who was Thaddeus Matthews?
Pastor and radio host Thaddeus Matthews was well-known for his contentious, foul-mouthed online lectures. A number of his videos became viral. He even appeared on a prominent comedy show called Tosh.0. Additionally, Matthews established a strong online presence on social media, gaining more than 7,000 Instagram followers, 78,000 YouTube subscribers, and over 103,000 Facebook followers. “The Cussing Pastor: B——t from the Pulpit” is another book he wrote.
Legal Troubles
In 2012, Matthews posted child pornography on his Facebook profile, which led to legal problems. He was spared jail time and given a probationary term. He said that in an effort to identify the victim, he posted the picture.
He was taken into custody and accused of harassment in 2016. In 2022, he was arrested once more on similar charges, allegedly breaking Tennessee’s “revenge porn” legislation and a protection order.
Other Controversies
There was further criticism because Matthews talked about politics a lot on his radio show. There was a lot of anger after he was accused of making homophobic statements regarding an openly gay council candidate during the 2019 city council elections.
