Tinder is Using Ai to Make Online Dating Creep-proof

It’s nearly hard for girls to avoid receiving improper messages on online dating apps, as I have discovered after using them for a few years. All of the apps offer a similar experience. Regretfully, and with good cause, Tinder has a particularly poor reputation in this area. Perhaps Tinder is so much more popular than most dating apps—so much so that the term itself has come to represent online dating—that you are more likely to receive inappropriate messages on Tinder than on other dating apps.

Tinder is working with the Centre for Social Research (CSR) to make online dating safer in advance of February 11th, Internet Safety Day.  Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, and Bengali are the four regional Indian languages in which Tinder has published its Dating Safety Guide today. Dr. Yoel Roth, Vice President of Trust and Safety at Match Group, says, “We’re launching the Tinder Dating Safety Guide in multiple languages for Safer Internet Day, empowering young daters in India with essential tools and tips.” “We are strengthening our commitment to higher safety standards across our platforms, communities, and industry by partnering with the Centre for Social Research to increase awareness of doable steps people can take for safer dating,” he continued.

However, improper texts are only one aspect of dating app issues. The platform is currently dealing with deep fakes, associated scams, and other issues as AI tools become more widely available. Even while data shows that only a very small percentage of accounts are now employing AI to generate deepfakes, Dr. Roth claims that the corporation intends to handle it as if it were a serious problem.

Tinder Dating Safety Guide

Dr. Roth gave a list of dangers and explained how Tinder had taken precautions against them. The content and engagement present the biggest (and oldest) obstacle. My particular concern on Tinder has been the improper texts. Tinder has introduced a few new AI-powered capabilities in addition to its current methods, which include photo verification, the ability to unmatch, and the ability to blacklist contacts.

– Are you sure: I’ve often pondered whether there might have been a way to filter those who use offensive language or similar terms on Tinder. This function genuinely asks the sender to proofread their writing before sending it. In essence, AI powers the “Are you sure” feature, which recognises offensive or unsettling texts and advises users to reconsider. It certainly helps in some ways, even though it cannot prevent the user from sending it.

– Does it bother you: The recipient has always had the ability to report or unmatch the sender if they choose to send the SMS regardless of the Are You Sure question. The tool, which has been renamed “Does it bother you,” allows you to block out users that you believe are bothering you.

– Share my date: I’ve often pondered whether there might have been a way to filter those who use offensive language or similar terms on Tinder. This function genuinely asks the sender to proofread their writing before sending it. In essence, AI powers the “Are you sure” feature, which recognises offensive or unsettling texts and advises users to reconsider. It certainly helps in some ways, even though it cannot prevent the user from sending it.

A new feature on Tinder allows you to communicate location, date, time, and a photo of your match with trusted contacts, such as friends and family, about your forthcoming dates. By informing others of your whereabouts and the people you will be meeting with, this feature essentially serves as a safety measure. Furthermore, it doesn’t end here.

Tinder has a worldwide law enforcement and legal investigative team that collaborates with the local prosecution in the event that something goes wrong. According to Dr. Roth, one of the most well-known instances during the meeting is the restaurant scam, which affects all online dating applications.

He describes how the users collaborate with the eateries and con individuals via Tinder. In essence, these users deceive their victims by pretending that they are on a legitimate date while, in reality, they are employed by the restaurant. On that day, they place a sizable order and leave their victim’s bill. Even if the scam has been reported after the perpetrator has been unmatched, the legal team can still assist in this situation.

According to Dr. Roth, timely reporting can benefit both the victim and potential targets. According to him, Tinder’s technology can eliminate “44 fake accounts per minute.” Now, even with such sophisticated technology, user behaviour is crucial. The way the user interacts with the platform is crucial. Additionally, Tinder is offering training on how to approach it in a healthy way in order to improve it.

– Let’s Talk Consent: The Dating Safety Guide explains the importance of consent in improving both in-person and online dating experiences. This guide’s main goal is to improve you as a person and teach you the fundamentals of treating people with respect. Let’s Talk Consent is a course offered by Yuvaa NGO and Tinder on Coursera.
