Punjab Man Shot Dead in Canada’s British Columbia

An Indian-origin man from Punjab’s Ludhiana was shot and killed in Canada. Yuvraj Goyal, who arrived in Surrey on a student visa, has been identified as the victim.

According to police, a 28-year-old Indian-origin man was shot to death in a suspected “targeted killing” in Canada’s British Columbia province. Four people have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the case. The victim, Yuvraj Goyal, was discovered dead by police officers responding to a shooting call in Surrey on Friday morning, according to a statement from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s homicide unit.

Goyal worked at a car dealership in Surrey, according to Global News, citing his sister Charu Singhla. She stated that the family had no idea why he was killed and had no evidence that he had any ties to organized crime. Goyal’s brother-in-law, Bawandeap, stated that the victim was on the phone with his mother, who lives in India, just before being shot. “He came back from his gym, (his) daily routine, and he stepped out of his car, and he was shot,” Bawandeap stated.

Shortly after the shooting, police arrested four suspects: 23-year-old Manvir Basram of Surrey, 20-year-old Sahib Basra of Surrey, 23-year-old Harkirat Jhutty of Surrey, and 20-year-old Keilon Francois of Ontario. They’ve been charged with first-degree murder, The Ultimate News reported police as saying.

The homicide unit said in a statement on Saturday that authorities were notified of a vehicle fire shortly after the shooting. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced on Saturday that the four had been charged with first-degree murder.

While initial evidence suggests it was a “targeted shooting,” investigators are working to determine the reason that Mr Goyal, a 28-year-old community member with no history of police contact, was killed.” The homicide unit also urged anyone with information or who was driving in the area and had dashcam footage to contact the police.
