SunRisers Hyderabad announced on Monday that Pat Cummins, Australia’s World Cup-winning skipper, will be their new captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).
Cummins, who was bought for a whopping Rs 20.5 crore in the 2023 auction, will take over the team from South Africa’s Aiden Markram, who led the Orange Army to last place in the 2023 season, winning only four of 14 matches.
According to the partial schedule released last week, the one-time champions will face the Kolkata Knight Riders in their IPL 2024 opener on March 23 at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
The full schedule for the upcoming season will be released once the Election Commission of India determines the dates of the General Election, which is expected to clash with the two-month extravaganza.
As previously stated, SRH had an average season in 2023 despite having a well-rounded roster. The Orange Army has only strengthened their team this year with the additions of Cummins and Travis Head, both of whom played key roles in Australia’s 2023 World Cup victory.
After the Kolkata match, Sunrisers Hyderabad will face the Mumbai Indians at home on Match 27, followed by the Gujarat Titans on Match 31 in Ahmedabad and the Chennai Super Kings in Chennai on April 5.
