Mohammed Shami Undergoes Successful Heel Surgery

Mohammed Shami, India’s star pacer, underwent successful heel surgery to repair his Achilles tendon. On February 26 (Monday), he used his social media accounts to share photos of himself and update fans on his condition. Shami stated that he will need time to fully recover before returning to competitive cricket. The surgery was performed in the United Kingdom.

Mohammed Shami last played in the 2023 World Cup, where he reportedly participated despite an ankle injury, and has been out of action since then. Despite being benched for four games, the senior pacer took the most wickets in the competition, dismissing 24 batsmen in only seven games.

Shami Looks Forward To Getting back On His Feet Again

Mohammed Shami announced in a post that he had a successful heel operation on his Achilles tendon. While acknowledging that the recovery process would take some time, he expressed a desire to get back on his feet.

“I just had a successful heel operation on my Achilles tendon!Recovery will take some time, but I’m looking forward to getting back on my feet,” Shami wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Mohammed Shami’s injury concerns have resulted in a number of missed opportunities across various cricket tournaments. After missing the home T20I series against Australia following the 2023 World Cup, he was ruled out of the entire South Africa tour and the Afghanistan series. Shami is currently not participating in the ongoing Test series against England.

Gujarat Titans Dealt A Big Blow

The latest health update has dealt a significant blow to Shami’s Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, the Gujarat Titans (GT), as Shami has been ruled out of the IPL 2024. This setback is especially significant for GT because Shami has been a key wicket-taker and contributor to the team’s success over the last two seasons.

The exact timeline for Mohammed Shami’s recovery is unknown at this time. The pacer is expected to undergo extensive rehabilitation in the coming months to ensure a complete recovery from heel surgery. The complexities of the rehabilitation will most likely dictate when he can return to competitive cricket.
