Geekbench has revealed Apple’s iPhone 16e, which has 8GB of RAM and a somewhat less powerful GPU than the original iPhone 16.
Geekbench has captured images of Apple’s most recent iPhone 16 model, the iPhone 16e, revealing some of its most important features. Even though the phone won’t be available for purchase until February 28th, preliminary benchmark results have already given us a sense of how well it works. MySmartPrice was the first to notice the Geekbench 6 Metal benchmark entry, which shows that the iPhone 16e is powered by a somewhat less powerful variant of Apple’s A18 CPU. The iPhone 16e has a 4-core GPU instead of the 5-core seen in the regular iPhone 16.
The iPhone 16e’s Geekbench Metal score of 24,188 points is approximately 15% lower than that of the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus due to the unique A18 chip inside of it. Chip binning, a widespread industry technique, is the cause of this performance discrepancy. Simply said, manufacturers employ significantly altered copies of their flagship chips for more affordable models, either by disabling certain components or by repurposing them. In this instance, Apple is able to offer the iPhone 16e at a reduced price without drastically altering the device’s performance profile since it employed a binned A18 chip.
The iPhone 16e still has 8GB of RAM even though its GPU power has somewhat decreased. This is significant because it guarantees compatibility with Apple Intelligence features, which were absent from the 6GB RAM model of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus from the previous year. Additionally, the Geekbench entry attests to the fact that iOS 18.3.1 was installed on the tested device.
The iPhone 16e is positioned by Apple as a less expensive version of the iPhone 16 series. How the decreased GPU performance will affect actual use, particularly for gaming and graphics-intensive jobs, is still unknown. Although benchmark scores offer a preview, the real user experience may differ.
