ICC announced the revised schedule on Monday (August 26) for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup after shifting the tournament to the UAE. Arch-rivals India and Pakistan are scheduled to face on October 6 and the match is set to commence at 3:30 PM IST.
The Women’s T20 World Cup schedule was updated and released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday, August 26. Because of the political unrest in Bangladesh, the tournament has been shifted from that country to the United Arab Emirates. So, on October 6, India and Pakistan, bitter rivals, will square off, although there are some questions about the timing of this highly anticipated match.
The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan is scheduled to start at 3:30 PM IST, rather than in the evening, which is usually prime time. It is interesting to note that the Indian men’s team is also playing a Twenty20 International (T20I) match against Bangladesh at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior on the same day. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 PM IST.
In order to ensure that the momentum for the highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan is not impacted, the ICC has decided to postpone the match. Conversely, it could be argued that the audience for the India vs. Bangladesh Twenty20 International is unaffected, as expectations for the match will likely remain unchanged.
India’s other World Cup matches against Australia (on October 13), New Zealand (on October 4), and Sri Lanka (on October 9) will all start at 7:30 PM IST at the same time. The ICC has not yet changed the date of the India Women’s World Cup match against Sri Lanka, which will take place on October 9th during the second Twenty20 International between India and Bangladesh.
While there has been no official confirmation or statement from the ICC regarding the start time of the IND vs PAK clash being 3:30 PM, it is obvious that the world cricketing body is looking to gain maximum traction out of the marquee encounter at the World Cup. Also, the broadcasters for both series (Women’s T20 WC and IND vs BAN series) are different. While the rights of the Women’s T20 World Cup are with Star Sports, Sports18 will telecast India’s home series against Bangladesh.
