Chunky Panday discusses his Bollywood career of highs and lows with The Ultimate News, as well as his new program, Griha Laxmi.
Chunky Panday is reverting to his darker side. Fortunately, it is visible on the screen. In the recently released online series Griha Laxmi, he portrays a merciless don. The actor discusses portraying the antagonist, why he pursued work with directors, and how his character is similar to Kevin Spacey’s renowned Keyser Soze from The Usual Suspects in an interview with The Ultimate News.
Chunky Panday on Griha Laxmi
Chunky concurs that the tone of Griha Laxmi was ‘women-oriented’. “I thought it sounded like something Ekta Kapoor would make under the Balaji (Telefilms) banner when they called me and told me they were making a show called Grihalaxmi,” he shares. What are you making, and are you certain you want me in this? I questioned them. Can I fit in? They then offered me a narration, which I thought was excellent.
Chunky portrays Karim Kazi, a don in Griha Laxmi. The actor explains, “He is like a rumour because you only hear about him.” “He is a lot like Keyser Soze from The Usual Suspects,” he says. You firmly believe that no one can be that way. Hina’s (Khan) character in the program actually resembles Walter White from Breaking Bad quite a bit. They have produced an excellent world.
Throughout his four-decade career, Chunky has portrayed romantic heroes or humorous sidekicks; he has never played a villain before. “I have a little Shaitaan hidden inside of me, so it was extra refreshing for me,” he acknowledges. We all do, I believe. We simply keep them silent. I’d never performed a full-fledged don on screen before. The other antagonists I portrayed were part of a larger antagonist. They were either the sons of villains or fixers. I am the big evil this time.
Chunky Panday on his Bollywood journey
According to Chunky, the trip on screen has been lengthy and started in the 1980s. He has had many highs and lows. However, he states sarcastically, “I have no regrets in my life. I think the trip should be enjoyable. The fun is in this journey, this up-and-down roller coaster ride.”
The actor claims that by deliberately seeking out outstanding jobs from filmmakers, he was able to reinvent himself over time. “I have been fortunate to have these roles,” he tells us. However, I’ve searched for these rolls. I spent a lot of time with people who were producing such films, and when I learnt that they had characters I wanted to play, I went after them. Since most people recall two to three scenes from a movie, I wasn’t afraid to do two scenes. You have that recall value with folks if you obtain one of them. We will all die one day, so the audience must remember you. There will only be our work left.
Griha Laxmi also stars Hina Khan, Rahul Dev, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya. It will premiere on Epic On on January 16.
