According to police sources with knowledge of the case, the decomposing body of a 48-year-old Kerala woman who vanished from Karunagappally in Kollam district on November 6 was discovered buried on Tuesday at an empty site in Karoor near Ambalapuzha in Alappuzha district.
They stated that the accused, a 50-year-old seafood worker who allegedly had a love involvement with the dead, was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with murder.
Vijayalakshmi, who was divorced from her husband, was identified as the deceased. Jayachandran, the accused, is a married Ambalapuzha resident with a single child. According to the authorities, Jayachandran’s family was away when the murder occurred at his house.
He allegedly killed her by repeatedly striking her skull with an iron rod. They stated that he later buried her dead in the Karoor plot of land next to his house.
According to preliminary findings, on November 6, Vijayalakshmi visited Jayachandran’s house in Ambalapuzha. They got into a fight, allegedly because she was seeing another man. The argument quickly escalated into a violent altercation in which he repeatedly struck her head with an iron rod. On condition of anonymity, an officer at the Karunagappally police station stated, “He has admitted to police that he later buried the body in a pit on the land next to his home.”
Vijayalakshmi’s decomposing body was discovered by police when they excavated the burial site based on the information provided by the accused, the officer continued.
The official declared, “It has been verified that the body belongs to Vijayalakshmi.”
After discovering her mobile on a KSRTC superfast bus bound for Kannur, police began to suspect Jayachandran of being involved in her disappearance. In an attempt to deceive the detectives and lead them to Kannur, the accused allegedly dropped the phone on the bus following the murder. But the bus driver quickly turned the phone over to the police after discovering it. According to the authorities, they discovered the message exchange between the deceased and the accused when they were looking through the phone.
According to reports, the accused confessed to the murder when he was questioned by police after being placed under arrest on Sunday.
Karoor was rocked by the murder on Tuesday. “He (Jayachandran) is a very quiet man and did not talk to people a lot,” a local remarked.
“Recently, we used to see him lurking near the compound where the body was found, which made us suspicious,” stated another neighbor.
Suni, Jayachandran’s wife, admitted to reporters that she knew her husband was seeing Vijayalakshmi. We were aware that they had money dealings and were in a relationship. At the Azheekal harbor, they collaborated,” she continued.
The body of Vijayakshmi was transported to the Alappuzha Government Medical College hospital for a post-mortem examination. Given the murder that took place there, the case is probably going to be moved to the Ambalapuzha police station, according to the authorities.
