Patna: Nitish Kumar resigned as Bihar’s chief minister on Sunday. The resignation comes after days of speculation that the leader was considering another political shift, returning to an alliance with the BJP.

After meeting with the governor, he announced, “I have resigned from the position of chief minister today. The new Grand Alliance that we formed (in August 2022) is not in good shape. “The situation does not look good.”

Mr Kumar’s swearing-in ceremony is expected to occur today. Nitish Kumar will receive two Deputy Chief Ministers from the BJP, according to sources. They added that Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha will serve as his deputies.

At 11 a.m. today, the Janata Dal (United) chief went to the governor’s office and handed in his resignation. Previously, he hosted MLAs from his party at his official residence.

With his resignation, Mr Kumar has left the 28-party Opposition bloc INDIA and is preparing to form a coalition with the BJP. Nitish Kumar intends to sack ministers from alliance partner and Lalu Yadav’s party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), sources had told The Ultimate News.

The BJP and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), or JD(U), have also reached an agreement on seat sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha election in three months. Nitish Kumar has already received letters of support from all BJP MLAs in Bihar, sources had told The Ultimate News.
