Shreyas Iyer, the Indian cricket team’s batter, may miss the final three Tests against England in the five-match series due to injury. According to the Indian Express, Iyer has complained of back stiffness and groin pain while batting, which may prevent him from playing the remaining matches. The report also claimed that, while all of India’s cricket kits were sent to Rajkot from Visakhapatnam, Iyer’s equipment was delivered to his home in Mumbai. The next step for Iyer is likely to be rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Iyer had back surgery in 2023 due to an injury, and with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
“Iyer has informed the Indian team management and the medical staff that his back gets stiff after playing more than 30 balls and he feels pain in his groin while playing forward defence,” a source familiar with the situation told The Indian Express.
“After surgery, he is experiencing this issue for the first time, so he has been advised to rest for a few weeks.” “He will go to NCA later.”
Meanwhile, according to the Indian Express, Virat has yet to communicate with the BCCI about his return date. However, the selectors will draft him into the squad as soon as he makes himself available.
“Virat will decide when he wants to return to the Indian team. “He hasn’t informed us yet, but if he decides to play, he will be included in the team,” a BCCI official stated.
“While representing the country has always been his top priority, some personal matters necessitate his presence and undivided attention. The BCCI respects his decision, and the Board and team management have expressed their support for the star batsman,” the BCCI said in a statement following Kohli’s withdrawal from the first two Tests against England.
