Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, made a major announcement on Thursday (February 29) by revealing their new vice-captain for the season. LSG, who have made the playoffs in each of their previous appearances in the tournament, announced that West Indian star Nicholas Pooran will be KL Rahul’s deputy in terms of leadership responsibilities in IPL 2024.
According to the decision, Pooran will replace Krunal Pandya as the franchise’s vice-captain. Krunal led the team after KL Rahul was injured midway through the IPL 2023 season.
However, if a similar situation arises this year, LSG will turn to Pooran, who has previous leadership experience in both international and franchise cricket.
LSG used social media to make the official announcement. “KL Rahul (C) Nicholas Pooran (VC) This season feels special already 💙,” read the caption on a photo of the two.

LSG Hand Jersey Number 29 Handed Over To Nicholas Pooran
Rahul handed over jersey number 29 to Pooran, as shown in the photo shared by the franchise. Pooran brings extensive leadership experience in addition to his stroke making ability, which is particularly useful in this format of the game. He recently led MI Emirates in the 2024 International League T20 (ILT20). It remains to be seen whether his promotion to the leadership ranks will change LSG’s fortunes, as the team has yet to play an IPL final despite playing some consistent cricket in the league stage.
With Rahul set to be available for the entire season, unless something unexpected happens, LSG will be hoping to lift the trophy in this edition of the T20 tournament, which begins on March 22. LSG’s campaign will begin against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on March 24 at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium in Jaipur.
