The farmers’ protests, which began to demand MSP for all crops, have turned violent in many places, including the Punjab-Haryana border at Shambhu. While farmers plan to storm Delhi amid heavy police deployment, recent videos show that their protest, like the one in 2021, is being hijacked by miscreants and anti-national elements. In a recent video, a Nihang Sikh is seen waving his sword at security forces and patting his thigh in a provocative gesture. Another person was seen walking around with a bow and arrow. A poster of Bhindranwale was also seen on a truck taking part in the farmers’ protest.
Miscreants pelted stones at security forces during the farmers’ protest, which continues today. On the fourth day of the protest, tensions between farmers and security forces remained high. Security personnel used tear gas shells to disperse demonstrators attempting to dismantle barricades at the Shambhu border near Ambala. Haryana Police released CCTV footage that implicated protesters in provocative actions. The footage appears to show demonstrators encouraging a woman to approach the barricades, escalating the already tense situation.
The protesting farmers have been camped at border crossings since the March began on Tuesday, February 13. A third round of talks with the central government ended in a stalemate on Thursday, amid a standoff between protesters and security personnel on the Punjab-Haryana border. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have called for a ‘Delhi Chalo’ march to pressure the BJP-led Centre to accept their demands.
